Retiremeant™ Planning

Living a meaningful and balanced life in retirement

Retiremeant™ means having the freedom to achieve your yet unfulfilled dreams and goals, on your terms and in your own time. You can retire with both meaning and money.

Retirement should be viewed as a new beginning, not as the beginning of an end. It is so important to consider what you will be retiring to. Together we will embark on a journey to ensure that you have a successful Retiremeant™ Plan in place. We start with a process of self-exploration, looking at where you have come from and how you got there. We then delve into your history with money and the principles you live by.

A critical part of our process is defining what retirement means to you, and creating a vision for your life in the coming years. Here we focus on balance, making sure that that your Retiremeant™ Plan encompass all factors of your life, making time for those areas in your life that may have been previously neglected.

We look at your retirement holistically, and combine Life Planning, Financial Planning, also considering your Investment Plan, and Estate Planning in your overall Retiremeant™ Plan.

The Wheel of Balance

I strongly believe that achieving a sense of balance is an essential part of a successful Retiremeant™. Life consists of many facets and neglecting some of them can have an impact on the others. For example, having excellent personal relationships would be of little value to you if your health were poor and you weren’t fully able to enjoy the people in your life.

Often, the pressures earlier in life makes it much harder to attain balance. Retiremeant™ is an opportunity to re-establish equilibrium by making time for those areas that might have been previously neglected.

The Wheel of Balance comprises eight essential elements for a more balanced and meaningful Retiremeant™: work, give-back, relationships, money, learning, health, purpose and play. It’s a personal and honest exercise that visually portrays how balanced your life is, and what areas (if any) needs attention.

The Bucket Wheel®

While the traditional idea of the bucket list is extremely helpful in that it focusses you on tangible objectives you want to meet in order to live life to the full, it generally conjures up ideas of things to do. I often meet retired clients who feel that they ticked off their complete bucket list two years into retirement – and 90% of the list consisted of travel destinations only. Although travel is an important part of your bucket list, this alone will not be as fulfilling as you thought.

Your life before and during retirement should not only be about what you want to do – but about who you are. And that’s why we encourage clients to use the Bucket Wheel®, to create a personalised Plan that’s speaks to their individuality.

The point of the Bucket Wheel® is to direct your energy towards what matters most. It focusses on living a balanced and fulfilled life and it urges you to invest time and energy into all eight areas of your life as identified in the Wheel of Balance. In essence, the Bucket Wheel® integrates the idea of balance with your bucket list and reflects all the things you would still like to do – and be – in your life ahead.

The Bucket Wheel® is also the best indicator of what money you will need and serves as a guide for allocating money to bring more meaning to the Retiremeant™ years.

Have something to retire to – instead of waking up one morning to find yourself retired from a job.

What some of our clients have to say

Ronelle Baker

A life planning session with Kim is something to look forward to – I am always so grateful for how we live, our health, our families, what we’ve achieved and how our lives in the future may look like. However, “life” is not something that you can plan and sometimes things happen that change your perspective and emotions.  An example is the death of a dear friend or relative and the incumbent administrative hassle of such an event, the need to financially and emotionally support a family member or families moving away and therefore dynamics changing.  Life planning sessions help you prepare for unexpected events and these sessions certainly help you to cope. Being part of the Chartered family, we are reassured that all aspects of our lives are efficiently and effectively managed, and for this we are immeasurably grateful.

John Arnesen

Retirement is the most underestimated change in someone life. The day you retire everything changes. Without professional life and financial planning support this can end up being the worst time of a person’s life! Thanks to Kim and her professional guidance I have transitioned into retirement with enthusiasm, ease and pleasure.
