The Year of AND: Because we always have Choices
Details

Kim Potgieter
Every January, I take time to reflect, dream, and plan. But this year, AND kept coming to mind – a word that challenges the idea that life is an either/or decision. So often, we feel pressured to choose one path over another: to be strong or vulnerable, driven or relaxed, happy or sad. But what if we could be many things all at once: driven AND take time to rest, feel uncertain about the future AND excited about what’s next? This mindset has helped me navigate life with more gentleness and kindness toward myself. I don’t always have to be a superstar – and that’s okay.
Where are you limiting yourself to ‘either/or’ thinking? How can you create space for AND?
Balancing money decisions with the Power of AND
Money decisions often feel like trade-offs: spend or save, enjoy today or plan for tomorrow. But what if money could support both? For example:
- You can invest in experiences that bring joy AND secure your financial future.
- You can support loved ones AND maintain your financial independence.
- You can indulge occasionally AND stick to a smart budget.
Often, we focus on what we’re giving up when we save, but what if we flipped that perspective? Instead of thinking about sacrifice, think about the freedom that saving can create – freedom to travel, to retire on your terms, or to start your own business.
Teaching AND Learning
In my new role as Managing Director at Chartered Wealth Solutions, I’m reminded that leadership is about both teaching AND learning. This year, I want to ask more questions, listen closely—especially to quieter voices—and grow alongside my team. I’m excited to collaborate with our younger directors and learn from their fresh ideas, just as I teach them about building a sustainable business. It’s a year of shared learning, growth, and blending generations.
Who in your life could you learn from? And who could benefit from your experience? Sharing knowledge is one of the most rewarding ways to grow.
My wish for you in 2025 is to lean into AND. Let’s make this the year we stop choosing and start thriving in both/and.
We also want to learn from you! We’ve compiled a short survey to better understand what resonates with you. Your feedback will help us tailor our communication and workshops to meet your needs. And as a thank you, completing the survey enters you into a lucky draw for a Babylonstoren Hamper.

Always remember, when it comes to your money, be inspired, be brave and be on purpose,
Kim
